2006 Phoenix Accomplishments The Phoenix Theater received an estimated 2000 attendees a month throughout 2006 for youth services during the week and for weekend shows. Critical capital improvement and safety upgrades were made to exterior and interior doors, electrical system, sound system, theater auditorium walls and floor, bathrooms, plumbing. Fire safety was upgraded with new exit lights and emergency lights; tutoring center was remodeled. Most of the skilled labor was donated by volunteers; materials were purchased with donations targeted to support each project. Phoenix Theater earned 68% of PPC overhead. Show revenues and theater rentals increased by $16K. Grants received from Celebrate Community Partners, Press Democrat, Rebuilding Together, Rotary International, Sunrise Rotary, Petaluma Chapter of Realtors (Best attended Halloween Fundraiser Party ever), individuals and local businesses totaling $95K Petaluma Sunrise Rotary Club made a commitment to the Phoenix that resulted in Rotary members renovating the bathrooms, replacing mezzanine lighting, repairing upstairs ceilings, plus hosting a fundraising dinner with 300 attendees to benefit the Phoenix and The Petaluma Boys and Girls Club. The Phoenix developed an ongoing partnership with Rebuilding Together and Sonoma County Youth Volunteer Corps, resulting in a week long teen volunteer work party, a donation of $4K worth of building supplies, and opening future opportunities for mutual support between the three organizations. The Phoenix launched a new website with online giving capacity and started quarterly electronic newsletter to donors, supporters and show attendees. Jam sessions with experienced musicians and open to all young people were held bi-monthly, led by Gio Benedetti. The Free Health Clinic was held 52 weeks of the year. The clinic received over 1000 client visits (98% of who lack any medical insurance) throughout the year for birth control, STD/AIDS testing, education and other health concerns. Four free dental clinics were held at the Theater, each serving 30 new clients (each screened for financial need) who received teeth cleaning, dental hygiene education and evaluation. Also coordinated with and received free or very low cost support services from local dentists and dental clinics for follow-up work for those with no insurance or resources. The Phoenix Teen Council was formed to help with fundraising events, policy development, and communication between board and kids. Gibson Guitar donated five acoustic guitars for Phoenix Music Education program and three very special guitars signed by BB King and Les Paul2006 Phoenix Accomplishments.doc2006 Phoenix Accomplishments.doc to be used as future auction items valued at $30K. The Phoenix board president established a relationship with Carlos Santana on behalf of the Phoenix, received a signed guitar and signed original artwork from Carlos for future auction. Mesa Boogie donated $10K worth of sound equipment to the Phoenix Theater. The Phoenix applied for and received approval to supervise volunteers from the Sonoma County Court Referral & Community service program. Larry Castellani, our Volunteer Building Superintendent supervised __ number of volunteers who fulfilled ___ number of court mandated community service hours while working on Phoenix projects such as the free Dental Clinic, construction and clean-up projects, safety upgrade projects, and serving at fundraising events.
