Skunk Funk
Skunk Funk
Eclectic, funky and pure irie, Skunk Funk sprung up from the streets of Vallejo, California to bring every crowd they woo an inspiringly animated experience. A spellbinding fusion of Funk Punk/Reggae Ska, the festivities begin once word of mouth brings Skunk Funk to town.

Originally started by members Bobby “Bobo” Roses, Nick Rose and Aaron Schulman in 2009, the 3 established a sound beyond classification and the birth of a new wavelength in art and music. Now based in American Canyon with their new, current line-up, consisting of Bobby “Bobo” Roses, Max Gee, Bryan “Cuban-B” Roses, Chad Schuler and Nick “Whitty” Whitmire their sound is more established than ever.

Bobby provides his sing-rap style vocals with poetic lyricism and also enriches the groove with his melodically remote yet heavy basslines. Cuban-B drives hard with his philosophical lyrics, soulful freestyle rapping and accentual stage presence. Nick provides the heartbeat of the band as the tastefully energetic and downright funky drummer. With the foundation of the melodies and harmonies comes the aesthetically pleasing guitar styling of Max Gee, who not only graces the set with complex yet smooth progressions and soloing, but also provides his vocals and lyrics to the mix. Chad completes the full sound of the group with his wailing saxophone lines and harmonies.

Presently, the five manifest a sound so distinctive and high energy; they are a hot commodity anywhere they go. What remains to be seen is where they get their influences, which can range anywhere from Sublime, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Primus to Mac Dre, Fishbone and Bob Marley. What the band’s members see, feel and experience, transcends into the crowd in such a way that every event they are given the opportunity to perform is sure to be an amazing musical and party atmosphere. Over the course of the last 4 years with their established line-up, they have managed to independently release an EP entitled “Too Fresh to Function” and a full-length album entitled “Possession 4 Sale”. They plan on recording and performing live in 2017.

Skunk Funk’s diverse sound and energetic live shows has earned them chances to perform at numerous venues including the 924 Gilman (Berkeley), the Cow Palace (SF), Smiley’s Schooner Saloon (Bolinas), The NOS event center (San Bernardino), The Blue Lamp (Sacramento) breweries like Napa Smith Brewery (Napa), theater venues like the Assembly in Sacramento and Blue Note (Napa), underground punk rock venues like the Burnt Ramen (Richmond) to Napa Valley wineries such as Stag’s Leap Winery (Napa). No matter the event, they connect with any crowd in any setting. They’ve had the pleasure to play numerous festivals such as Bottle Rock Napa Valley, Chalice Festival, Hemp Con, Heart and Soulstice Festival, Reggae in the Trees (OR), Sacramento Hemp Fest and more. In their travels they have shared the stage with many different acts including The Black Keys, Zac Brown Band, Primus, Violent Femmes, Joan Jett, Cake, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Train, Michael Franti, Bad Religion, The Black Crowes, The Flaming Lips, The Aggrolites, RBL Posse,Indubious, Mystic Roots, Prezident Brown, Marlon Asher, Baby Bash, Paul Wall, Fortunate Youth, Yukmouth, B-Legit and many more to come in the near future.
